Original notes follow:

Paul Ullrich: "The job at Ecole Howden was probably the most enjoyable Mural experience I ever had. It was a wonderful time working there; great people, great school. Of course, I was not working with my own designs but the designs of the students. Students from different grades would submit designs for the mural panels, and a jury would pick which ones they liked. I was on the jury; Tom Ethans (executive director, Take Pride Winnipeg) was on the jury, and a couple of the teachers from Ecole Howden and we picked out the best designs to go on each of these panels. The jury selections were done on February and in May of 1998 we started work on the wall."

"There was a very physical part to this work in that the wall is not close to the school or the street, and I would get there is early as I could and I would have to lug all the stuff (paint and supplies) all the way back and forth every day. And there was no shade at all."

"But it was a great group! Not only did the students help, but that was a parent-teacher organization as well. So the Moms came too, and they were a great help. We worked out a system where the only students that painted were from grades three and up. For the students in grade two and under, they did their hands and paint and put their handprints on the wall to make the border."
